Alrighty so i picked up my motor today for Pokey the Wunder Bus. EJ22 out of a 96 legacy. I've got some questions now:

1) The exhaust ports on this only have one hole each side, i'm used to seeing the siamesed ports. Will this be an issue?

2) This motor was mated to an automatic transmission. Will the EGR throw a fit if i dont have it plugged in>

3) Heres the big question. What ECU and harness will jive with an automatic 96 engine. I'm worried that the 96 legacy ecu i already have (that is for a manual transmission) will have major enough differences that it wont function right.

4) Should i bother with making a build thread?

Thanks Happy

The siamesed exhaust port EJ22's were never sold in Europe. As far as I know they are for US emissions spec engines only. As your engine has EGR, which is another non EDM feature on a '96 Legacy, I'd be pretty certain that your engine is US spec. If it's harness has an OBD II connecor, its definitely USDM. The wiring and ECU on mid to late '90's USDM models is totally different to EDM. If you blank off the EGR and swap the entire management system for an EDM one, you will probably be able to get it to run. How well it will run is anybody's guess, as the engine internals (i.e. cam profiles & timing, and compression ratio) are unlikely to be the same. If they are similar-ish you may be lucky, and vice versa. Mixing and matching engine management systems is generally a recipe for hassle I'm afraid.

Alrighty i'll post up here as i actually build stuff.
I know its a '96 engine, obdII, it just has the goofy exhaust ports and the egr. I'll just leave the egr on, its not hurting anything. It's also from an automatic so it'll have some goofyness from the neutral switch or what have you.
I have done this before, so it should be easier this time around Happy
I just need to get a harness together... I'll do the 'easy' route this time, and strip down a complete harness instead of merging the two cut pieces together Wink
