G'day. I received my second choice heater yesterday. An underseat heater from a 60 series Land Cruiser. It was slightly larger than I thought so I've had to rule out putting it up front. I want to put it up back somewhere, but where has me a little stumped.
Here's a photo of the heater I took while I was trying to set it up to test it worked.
Here's a pic I took last year of the inside. There is nothing fitted under all that crap, so it's a roughly 3/4 seat. The interior will be made later when (if) I decide what to put there.
The heater sucks the air in from underneath the round bit, and blows it out mostly through that rectangular hole. It has some other small vent holes dotted around. It would also be very nice to be able to reach that control lever. If you are wondering that lever is attached to an internal valve. Pretty neat, eh?
So, I'm a little stumped on a good place. Suggestions, please!

I have the same heater in my bug, its under the back seat, I previously used it in my another bug with 2.1 WBX motor. The fan is not all that powerful but after a while it does work very well as it was recirculating the inside air.

In my test it seemed to do a great job in the bay after a few minutes. I wanted to get a recirculating fan from a passenger bus but they are forged from pure unobtainium.
The issue I'm having is where a sane place to put it is so it can suck air in and blow it out again. How did you manage that? Unless my memory is seriously faulty the back seat in the beetle is blocked off much like the camper seat in my bay, only not plywood
While the fan isn't strong, it's heat transfer ability seems really good. First test the hoses were barely above room temperature (and leaking everywhere) and the air blowing out of the heater was slightly warm.
If flash steaming a passenger's head wasn't a concern of mine, I'd put it to the right of where it's sitting in that photo next to the mattress. But it is a concern so I won't.
I need to test it once more before I think of installing it. When I did it yesterday I realised I left the cap off the header tank. Duhhhh.
you would know, does it have an in and an out line? I wasn't sure which side should be pressurised? I'm thinking I may have it backwards because logic tells me the high pressure side shouldn't be the side with the valve plunger rod.

I got rid of the built in heater tap, on my WBX I mounted an external tap that was worked by the heater cable. On my WRX motor I'm using a 4 way Commodore heater.
I sucked air into my rear seat area through a hole that usually sent warm air to the rear seat passenger area and then blew the warm air down heater channels.

That makes sense. Totally useless but interesting If I had the heater tube, or even the ability to fit one (radiator in the way) I'd do something like that, except I'd have to make my own hole. Panels don't have rear heat.
So did you block up the other louvres and holes on the heater to make it blow through the channel?
edit: I should add that I also don't have the clip that holds the cables in place behind the dash for the heating system, and the heater cables are seized solid so I was thinking of ignoring the heater valve, at least for now.
