Basically my engine (2.0 N/A from a 96 leacy) will only run with no MAF or MAF covered with my hand. (I've tried many MAF's now including one from Kai that he tested on his motor) Some questions i have are;
1) If my exhaust system is too short or large in diameter could it be the problem i'm experiencing?
2)When running, should there be 12v at the cold start wire on the starter?
3)What would a faulty o2 sensor do and how can i check it?
I have pressure tested my intake system pipes from behind MAF to TB with all hoses attached and plugged,
i have fitted new intake gaskets,
i've sprayed easy start on pipes and joints to try an identify air leaks.
My MAF signal voltages seem to be correct.
PCV cleaned and rattles when shaken.
Oil cap on tight!
No CEL lights. (until i unplug the MAF)
I'm really getting fed up now as i want to use my van and dont want to go back to the lawn mower
Rjes loom work so i doubt there's any fault there.
No VSS and Neutrat possition switch wires connected. |

| No idea if it'll help...but have you got the Idle air control valve (IAC)plumbed into the air intake? |

Hi, yep, the iac is plumbed in after the maf. I'm using the stock subaru setup and air filter.
I've bought a adjustable fuel presure reg with a pressure gauge so when that comes i'll fit it and i'll be able to see if its got enough fuel pressure. |

Do you know with absolute certainty that you have the right MAF part number for your ECU? i.e. did they definitely come from one car which was running correctly before being dismantled? I have the MAF part numbers for a few ECU's but not many (I rarely get to see the MAF when converting harnesses). If you let me know you'r ECU part number, I can check whether I know the matching MAF number.
The lack of error codes does make it sound like you maybe have an incorrect component, etc.
1. No
2. No
3. It'll run slightly rich, with the ignition timing retarded, resulting is less fuel economy and sluggish throttle response.
If I remember right, I think I did your harness conversion work? If so, try asking me for help if you have a problem rather than posting on forums. I don't get as much time as would be ideal to read the forums
Exactly (i.e. in great detail) what happens if you try to start it without partially covering the MAF? Once it is running, what happens if you then uncover the MAF. _________________ Regards,

Hi Richard. Yes you did my wiring thanks and I'm very pressed with it. My ecu no is 2268011AC650 A18-000DB8 5x11 and my maf is22680AA160 A36-000R60
If I try to start it with the maf covered it will run and rev fine untill I remove my hand, then it stalls. If I try starting it with it plugged in but uncovered it starts runs for between 1 and 5 seconds then stalls. I'll try to ring you in the week if that's ok. Paul. The maf was fine in the car before removal.

| Finally I have my engine running! It was the fuel pump I was using, it was only producing about 4 psi. I've now fitted one of RJES's fuel pumps now (thanks Richard for that and the phone chat). I just need to tidy some wires now and somehow get the air locks out the cooling system! Amongst some other bits and bobs and it's MOT time. |
