Hi Guys been awhile, was nt going to do me subaru conversion, got ill, got all sentimental about doing it to a rare-ish split, all sorts..
But ive two 2.5 dohc engines, longblocks, as i started to strip one to clean and do, an adapter ecu some wirring.
So my thinking is horlicks do it, its my van, i would like fun ecconomy and reliability, not much of that with a 2056 type 4....
An real heating
Is there anyone in somerset who has sucessfully done a 2.5 conversion or 2.2 I ll need pointers, i need to focus and get my head back round to what should be on my engine, what i need once i know where Im going it wont be a problem... Anyhelp would be great thanks mark

Hi there, sadly you will find this a bit of a slow forum as there are not many live posters.

I can't help you with 2.5 or 2.2 but I am doing an ej20 conversion in a rare-ish split too (1959 ex-ambulance). For me the biggst issue is transmission, which I have not yet solved. I am guessing you are not going to keep the swing axle trans and reduction boxes as its not really up to the job, so then you're going to have to decide what trans to fit instead. I've already got two 002 late bay boxes but the amount of modification required to fit them in a splitty is not small so I may take another route.

Once the transmission is sorted then the rest should just be bolting bits together, your plumbing will be the main challenge.

I built a 2.2 SOHC in my Bay, so don't know if I can be of any help. If you're willing to look through many pages of a Dutch forum of a guy named Berry, who put a DOHC engine in a Samba. Lots of pics and a very decent build using a Subaru gearbox.

Basically a convo is simple, but as said earlier: you've got a gearbox problem to solve. In a split is basically comes down chopping off the bull horns to some extent and fabricating some support to match the tranny of choice with the remains of the bull horns.

Other than that, I think it's a fairly straightforward job. Check out some of the build threads using DOHCs.

hi guys yes the bus has already had the frame horns cut off and creative put in on the piss (which I have to redo) its running a 1303 AT trans. I have a TSR adapter and 210 adapter flywheel... Its the wirring and plumbing rad to use heating set up etc i d like input of. solid experience

Hei Mark,

there are several diagrams for plumbing for Subis to be found on the forum. This thread has a few, including ones with heater matrices in them. Basicly any matrix can be used, as long as it fits in the spot you want to stick it. Look at this for inspiration.

Concerning wiring: Ask RJES to do your harness or get a diagram from one of the guys on here who use a 2.5 DOHC.
